Spring has officially arrived and just like the season, the books in our homeschool room are changing. Let’s dive right into this list of spring read-aloud books your kids will love.

Okay, I kid, we can’t dive in quite yet. First, let’s talk a little bit about why you want to feature seasonal books.

Why Seasonal Books Make Great Read Aloud Books

To make a long story short, reading books that provide information kids can connect to their environment is valuable in the learning process. Our brain looks for the meaning and purpose behind the information we receive.

Otherwise, we’ll just forget most of it if the information doesn’t serve us.

Here are some questions to consider when placing books in your child’s environment:

  1. How does this book relate to what my child is currently interested in?
  2. How does this book relate to the world around them?
  3. Does this book provide factual information about the current season of the year? You should still include fictional books in the mix.
  4. Does this book have diverse characters represented throughout?

Seasonal books make great read-aloud books because the information is relevant, likely to spark new interests and/or nurture current ones, and can provide factual information that can immediately be applied during real-world experiences in your child’s day.
