Want to start your morning off on the right side of the bed? Then there are 3 things you don’t want to skip in your evening routine.
I guess there is no better time to write and share this than sitting on my couch after the kids are finally asleep and the house is ready for the next day. A good morning routine truly begins the night before. I say this from a few years of trial and error as a full-time homemaker.
3 Homemaking Tasks Before Bed
Now, while routines constantly change to adjust to the needs of the family and home, I think I have found three tried and true things to do before I lay my head on the pillow and close out the day.
Tidy Up
Tidying up might be an obvious thing to do before bed but I promise, every time I skip doing this, I instantly regret it in the morning. And I know, when you have kids its a miracle you even made it past the bedtime routine, but this one thing is so worth it.
There are three areas I recommend tidying up before going to bed. Set a timer for 15 minutes and let’s tidy up.
Kitchen

My least favorite area to clean but the one part of the house that fills me with joy when it is clean. They say the heart of the home is the kitchen and so, let’s start there. I like to make sure the sink is empty and wiped clean. So I either load and start the dishwasher or put away any dishes on the drying mat from dinner.
Next, I clear all surfaces and do a quick wipe down with natural and non-toxic cleaner. Clutter is my kryptonite.
Finally, I sweep the floors and mop depending on the condition of the floors. This all takes about 5-8 minutes if you focus on tidying and not deep cleaning.
Living room
The living room is quick and easy for us. Usually, I just have to fold the throw blankets, sweep, and put any toys on the floor or couch in the basket.
Then I would recommend prepping to wash laundry in the morning.
Laundry
This is a quick but helpful task in tidying up at night. Grab your dirty clothes from the day and your laundry basket, then put them in the washing machine. In the morning, you will be able to add your washing detergent and immediately start your load.
If you use a laundry mat or a laundry service, I recommend sitting the basket near the door or in the car.
These three areas definitely put me at ease and give me a head start on my day once the littles awake.
Plan for the Day Ahead
After tidying up, I like to sit down at my desk and outline my day. This looks different for everyone so I wont go too much in detail, but having a vision for the day ahead isn’t a bad idea.
Not only can you jot down your to-do list, but you can prep for homeschooling, meals that you plan to cook, and put out your outfit.
If your littles do not pick out their own outfits, you can also set out theirs as well during this time.
Spiritual and Self-care

Definitely take time to end the day with the creator. Take care of your spiritual health as well as your personal self. Whether this is prayer, meditation, bible study, or any of your favorite self-care activities, make time for it.
And just as you get ready to go to sleep, groom yourself. Make sure your face is washed, teeth are brushed, and put on some of your favorite moisturizer
Then rest!
